Campus East Cyles for Life and Relays for Life
For the second year in a row, Campus East is supporting cancer research by entering two teams in this year’s Illawarra Relay for Life on 19-20 September. Last year the event raised over $256,000 for cancer research, and this year the target is even higher.
Campus East is entering two teams into the relay, one made up of student leaders and another of Campus East Residents. The Student Leader team, named the ‘Pork Chops’ (in support of our mascot, Relay Pig) has 19 members and has a target of $1500 dollars to raise in time for the event. Each team member set their own target and is committed to reaching their goal.
Fundraising will consist of more than just bake sales and door-knocking too. A group of student leaders organised a ‘Cycle for Life’ which took place on Wednesday 9 September. Students cycled for their life on exercise bikes for 12 hours straight in the Campus East foyer, dressed in typical cycling attire (see photo) to raise money for the Campus East’s teams. The cyclists heckled residents throughout the day to donate, and buskers were play nearby to raise money for the cause.
All of this cycling will hold the students in good stead for the big Relay for Life on 19 – 20 September.
