The Government Information (Public Access) Act 2009 (“GIPA Act”) allows UOW to release information in response to an informal request, unless there is an overriding public interest against disclosure of the information.
You may forward an informal request to the UOW’s Manager, Information Compliance who will consider whether the information you are seeking may be released without a formal access application.
UOW may release information to you subject to any conditions that it sees fit to impose and you cannot require UOW to disclose information through an informal request. UOW is permitted to decide by what means information is released and may delete matter from a copy of the record to be released informally.
UOW may be unable to provide the information informally, for example if retrieving the information would require a significant diversion of resources or if the material contains information about a third party that cannot be easily deleted and consultation would need to occur. If this is the case, you are still able to lodge a formal access application to request the information.
